Pokémon Set Performance: Scarlet & Violet Leads While Team Up Remains King

The Pokémon card market continues to show remarkable strength, but the biggest story isn't necessarily which sets are worth the most—it's which sets are gaining value the fastest.

Using total set value data from XY through Mega Evolution-era releases, recent performance shows a clear shift in market momentum. While legacy sets continue to dominate overall value rankings, newer Scarlet & Violet expansions are driving some of the strongest gains across the hobby.

Scarlet & Violet Dominates Recent Performance

Over the past three months, Scarlet & Violet sets occupied eight of the top ten positions for percentage growth.

Leading the way was Temporal Forces, which surged 63%, followed by Crown Zenith (+58%), Paldean Fates (+55%), and Black Bolt (+52%).

Additional strong performers included:

  • Paldea Evolved (+44%)

  • White Flare (+44%)

  • Prismatic Evolutions (+37%)

  • Twilight Masquerade (+37%)

The trend suggests collectors and investors continue rotating capital into newer releases, particularly sets featuring highly desirable alternate arts, special illustration rares, and fan-favorite Pokémon.

Team Up Still Holds the Crown

Despite recent gains from modern sets, Team Up remains the most valuable Pokémon set overall with a total set value approaching $9,500.

The set's combination of low supply, iconic tag-team cards, and strong collector demand has helped it maintain its position at the top of the market years after release.

Following closely behind are:

  1. Team Up — $9.5K

  2. Evolving Skies — $7.9K

  3. Ascended Heroes — $7.8K

  4. Cosmic Eclipse — $6.3K

  5. Prismatic Evolutions — $6.0K

Notably, several Sun & Moon-era releases continue to command premium valuations despite posting more modest recent gains.

Evolving Skies Refuses to Slow Down

One of the most impressive performances belongs to Evolving Skies.

Already one of the most expensive modern Pokémon sets ever produced, the set still managed to gain 33% over the last three months while maintaining a total set value of nearly $8,000.

Few sets have demonstrated the longevity of Evolving Skies, which continues to benefit from demand surrounding Umbreon VMAX, Rayquaza VMAX, and other chase cards.

Sun & Moon Remains a Mixed Picture

Many Sun & Moon-era sets remain among the hobby's most valuable releases, but recent appreciation has generally lagged behind Scarlet & Violet.

Cosmic Eclipse, Unbroken Bonds, Celestial Storm, Unified Minds, and Team Up all posted gains, but most remained in the single-digit to mid-teen range.

This suggests that while collectors continue valuing these sets highly, a significant portion of recent market momentum has shifted toward newer products.

Chaos Rising Highlights Release Volatility

The weakest performer by a wide margin was Chaos Rising, which declined 67% since release.

Large declines immediately following launch are not uncommon as initial hype fades and additional product enters the market. The performance serves as a reminder that not every new release maintains its early pricing strength.

Looking Ahead

The data highlights an interesting split within the Pokémon market.

Legacy sets such as Team Up, Evolving Skies, Cosmic Eclipse, and Hidden Fates continue to command some of the highest valuations in the hobby. At the same time, Scarlet & Violet products are generating the strongest short-term momentum and attracting increasing collector attention.

Whether recent gains can be sustained remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the Pokémon card market continues rewarding both rarity and nostalgia while still creating opportunities in newer releases.

As collectors look toward the second half of the year, the battle between established grails and emerging modern sets may become one of the most important trends to watch.
