The Silver-Border Pokémon ex Market Is Surging

The market for silver-border Pokémon ex cards has entered one of its strongest periods in years, with PSA 10 examples of several iconic cards now commanding five-figure prices.

Released during the EX era of the mid-2000s, these cards have historically occupied an unusual position within the Pokémon market. They are significantly scarcer than most modern chase cards but have often received less attention than other vintage categories, including Gold Stars and Crystal Pokémon.

That appears to be changing quickly.

Celebi ex Leads the Surge

The Celebi ex from EX Unseen Forces has climbed to approximately $78,000, representing a 1,200% year-over-year increase. With only 37 copies graded PSA 10, the card combines an extremely limited population with growing demand for one of the era’s most recognizable designs.

The Mew ex from EX Legend Maker has experienced similarly dramatic appreciation. A PSA 10 is now valued around $44,000, up 988% over the past year, with just 77 examples at that grade.

Milotic ex from EX Emerald has reached approximately $50,000, an increase of 809%. Its PSA 10 population stands at only 31 copies, making it one of the scarcer cards highlighted in the recent market movement.

Major Pokémon Are Attracting Serious Demand

The appreciation has extended well beyond a few isolated cards.

A PSA 10 Charizard ex from EX FireRed & LeafGreen recently reached approximately $47,000 at auction, marking a 481% year-over-year increase. Although its population of 237 is higher than the other featured cards, Charizard’s continued popularity has supported substantial demand.

Two different Mew ex cards have also participated in the surge. In addition to the Legend Maker example, the Mew ex from EX Holon Phantoms has reached approximately $34,000—a 692% increase over the past year. Only 60 copies have earned a PSA 10.

Other notable examples include:

  • Suicune ex: $29,000, up 418% with a PSA 10 population of 49

  • Ho-Oh ex: $25,000, up 681% with a population of 47

  • Deoxys ex: $25,000, up 614% with a population of 28

A Breakout—or an Overheated Market?

The recent performance is difficult to ignore, but increases ranging from 418% to 1,200% in a single year also raise questions about whether prices have moved too quickly.

Low populations can amplify appreciation when multiple collectors compete for the same card. However, that scarcity can also make pricing less reliable because relatively few transactions establish the market.

The featured figures include a combination of current auctions and Buy It Now prices, meaning they should not all be interpreted as completed sales. Still, the broader trend is clear: silver-border Pokémon ex cards have emerged as one of the hottest segments of the vintage market.

The question now is whether collectors are witnessing a lasting revaluation of the EX era—or buying into the market after its biggest move has already occurred.
